It’s been over five years since we last photographed Darren the football coach and it’s been no mean feat getting him back in front of the camera. Only by pitching up at a hotel close to his home could we persuade the big (still hugely sexy) man to slip away from domestic bliss for a few hours and give us the lowdown on the last half decade.
Thirty-six-year old Darren tells us how a serious knee injury several years ago ended his semi-professional football career overnight. A painful operation and lengthy recovery crushed his spirits and wiped out a weekly routine of training and club night hedonism. He sorely missed the weekend matches, the camaraderie of his team mates, and settling down to married life in a country cul-de-sac was perhaps the last straw for Darren.
Being the ever-dependable friend and hubby finally took its toll and brought on an early midlife crisis but Darren has now emerged as a more mellow, contented man and he’s just become a daddy too. He is coming to terms with a body that is approaching forty: a slightly fuller tummy and having to take more care when taking a leak; stray drips and suit trousers can be very embarrassing as demonstrated during our shoot. Maybe it’s just time to start wearing underpants Darren?
